In the summer of 2003, shoe.* appeared one day on a flyer in the city of Detroit, MI. Since, those forgettable times, Dustin Gardner has used Shoe.** as a musical cocoon, while he transformed into the beautiful butterfly you feel today. Gardner's silky womb is filled with a revolving roster of seasoned Detroit musicians, who have aided him in the creation of Motown inspired polished indie pop with a touch of rock. The resulting sound (Turn of the Century MotownSuperPopIndieRock) is mainstream marketable, while retaining an indie sensibility.

In April 2011 Shoe.'s "The Speed of Life" won the 10th Annual Independent Music Award's BEST POP ROCK ALBUM OF THE YEAR. In July 2011 Shoe. also won the 10th Annual People's Choice Award for BEST POP ROCK SONG OF THE YEAR from the 10th IMA's. "The Speed of Life" was produced in Detroit, MI. at the studios of nationally renowned Christopher Lazlo Koltay of High Bias Recordings. (Deer Hunter, Akron Family, Dirt Bombs)

Many people ask.. “Why SHOE.?”   And, most of the answer can be summed up with -Gardner doesn’t really like any band name.   Let’s face facts… They’re silly.  So, Gardner chose a common noun, that people use & see every day.  It wasn’t until years later that, while listening to the original The Beatles Interviews, Gardner heard “the boys” jokingly answer the same question:

On answering the question; “Why the (band) name “The Beatles”?

John Lennon- “ Cause it means Beatles duhnit(?) Ya, know?  That’s just a name like shoe.”

Paul McCartney- “Right, Shoe.”
